Improvements for single sex accommodation

Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is committed to ensuring that all our service users and their carers have the best possible experience of the services we provide.

All of the Trust’s inpatient accommodation currently conforms to the Department of Health guidelines in relation to single sex accommodation. This means that wards are either entirely same sex or care is provided in designated same sex bays and single rooms, with designated male and female only bathrooms and toilets. However, we are committed to doing even better and going beyond the minimum standards set by the Department of Health. To that end the Trust has developed an improvement plan for the forthcoming year to further enhance the environment and to ensure that best practice is applied in relation to same sex accommodation. In particular, we will:

  • Improve internal signage of male and female only areas
  • Improve the information made available to service users, their carers and the public
  • Carry out an audit to make sure we are complying fully with the Department of Health guidance on privacy and dignity and meeting our own standards for this
  • Improve access to bathing and toilet facilities at Witham Court in Lincoln
  • Develop a programme whereby we talk to women who use our services about their experiences of privacy, dignity and sexual safety so we can identify further developments we could make in the environment and in clinical practice.
