What is Equality?
The Trust seeks equality in the valuable things that people can do or be, so that everyone has the real freedom to live in ways that they value. An organisation which protects and promotes equality is one in which everyone can flourish.
An equal organisation that recognises the diverse needs, situations and goals of individuals, removes discrimination and prejudice, and tackles the economic, political, legal, social and physical barriers that limit what people can do and be.
What is Embracing Diversity?
Diversity means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences. These can be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies. It is the exploration of these differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment. It is about understanding each other and moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual.
The Trust recognises the need to comply with a number of identified equality legislative acts, amendments & regulations with particular regard to promotion of good equality of opportunity for staff, service users and the community we serve. It is now imperative that all new functions are equality impact assessed to ensure that all sections of our community and to address the prevention, elimination or regulation of discrimination between persons on the grounds of sex or marital status, on racial grounds or on grounds of disability, age, sexual orientation, language or social origin or of other personal attributes, including beliefs or opinions, such as religious beliefs or political beliefs.

The Trust recognises the importance of consultation in all aspects of the development and implementation of its responsibilities for equality. Involvement and consultation will give minority groups a meaningful stake in the provision of their health and social care, ensure higher satisfaction with service levels and help make best use of resources.
